I have a local access TV show. Are you impressed? Isn’t it a gas that when you tell folks you wrote a book, they smile and say, “That’s wonderful. Good for you.” But, if you say you produce a TV show, their eyes light up with a WOW!
I’d like to share with you how I happened to become the producer of that local access TV show, and how you can leverage it into a great marketing tool.
- Every state has local access TV. Just Google local access TV, and you will find a list by state. You will most likely be offered a website for the stations.
- Click on the website and follow the instructions to apply to have your program accepted by the station.
What! You don’t have a program?
- You must come up with a format for your program. You can decide if you want to do a single program or a series. You can choose how often your show will be aired.
- My show airs once a week, but since I live in a densely populated area, there are three channels that air the show, so I am really getting three times that exposure.
TUNE IN NEXT TIME TO FIND OUT HOW I DO MY SHOW AND HOW I USE IT AS A MARKETING TOOL FOR ME AND MY GUEST AUTHORS.
What is The Writer’s Dream?
The format for my show is very simple. I give each author a half hour to talk about the writing, publishing and marketing of their books. They must be published, either traditionally or self-published.
How do you actually produce the program?
- You need to find a studio. Many public access stations have those facilities, and require you to train to become a producer, director and technician. You need to think about having a CREW to train with you. You cannot interview, direct, and run the cameras all by yourself.
- I use a different studio to produce the shows than the other local access stations that are mentioned above. But this studio airs my programs on an almost daily basis. More exposure!
Where do I get the talent?
- Writer’s Groups and Organizations
- Blogs
- Facebook and other social media
The Marketing Process. So Important!
- The studio produces a DVD of the show (very reasonable). The guests can purchase it.
- I put every show on YouTube.
- I advertise the show on facebook, The Writer’s Dream.
- Every author can put the DVD on their website, blog, social media pages. This is a lot of exposure.
So, I invite you to try it. Especially if you are self-published and must do your own marketing. As the host of my show, I am on almost every video on YouTube with my website. It’s a great marketing tool, but you also get the satisfaction of giving back to your author circles.
